The latest from Holsworthy Golf Club
By Mark Brumham
THIS year continues to be an excitement one for Holsworthy Golf Club, with the course and clubhouse undergoing significant re-development, with planned works to be completed in 2027.
In the meantime, the club competitions have continued in perfect conditions. The year started with the winners of the monthly medal competitions competing against each other for the Medal Winner Final, with the competition being won by Keith Horwell.
Next up was the Holsworthy Coombe Cup competition, our 36 hole competition, held on the same day. Conditions on the day were quite brutal, being the start of the heatwave, with competitors competing in temperatures of around 36 degrees, so it wasn’t just the course they were competing against, but the conditions too. A very tight competition in the end, ultimately being won by captain, Mark Brumham.
In June we held our first “Past Members Trophy”, which was created to remember all past members and the commitment and contribution they have made to Holsworthy Golf Club, in particular to remember the passing of our previous owner Mike Bridgman, who did so much for the club during his tenure. A well attended day, again in glorious conditions, with Steve Keyworth winning the stunning trophy for the first time. Well done Steve.
The Dickersons Trophy was played on June 10, this cup as been in circulation for many years now and remains one of the oldest trophies that members can compete for. A big well done to Alastair Oecken for winning this year.
In July, we had the Men’s Club Championship, a two day event, with cups available for the winners of the Best Gross and Best Net Score. Our new owner, Craig Derby, sponsored the competition, resulting in a prize fund in excess of £1,000, so there was everything to play for.
Another very tight result, but in the end our Trainee Pro, Oscar Jamison, won the best Gross score to become club champion 2026, while Steve Keyworth posted a great Net Score to become Club Net Champion 2026. Steve bagging his second trophy for the year.
Recently, the captains held their Charity Day, which was fully subscribed. Teams of four were competing and raising money for their two charities, a great local charity, being the Holsworthy Youth Club, and a national gynaecological cancer charity, being the Eve Appeal. On the day, the captains helped to raise £1,200, which was an excellent results and we would like to thank all those that attended. The winning team comprised of Roger Pope, Steve Keyworth, Jonathan Curtis and Mark Gilbert.
At the end of July we welcomed our new president to the club, Barry Parrish, a well known local, with great contacts and a long standing relationship with the club and the town. Barry will head up the reorganisation of the club, as we move through this period of redevelopment. Barry joins at a very exciting time, and we look forward to updating all the readers on the course changes and developments once they have been completed.
