Seniors Section

Home match v St Enodoc — Monday, August 20

EIGHT pairs represented Launceston seniors for the second leg of the annual contest against St Enodoc.

The first leg, which had been played at St Enodoc, was a close affair with the home side winning 4.5-3.5, so Launceston knew that they would need to exploit the home advantage for the return contest.

Launceston turned out to be the better team, winning by 5.5-2.5 to give Launceston an overall 9-7 victory.

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Jon Skyrme of Launceston and Roger Priestley of St Enodoc.

Senior Captains Day — Tuesday, August 21

FOUR-hundred and ten pounds was raised for charity at John Bassett’s Senior Captain’s Day last week.

Talking about the day, John said: “Firstly, I must thank all of you who played and supported me on my ‘day’, and I am sure you will be pleased to know that the sum of £410 was raised for my charity, Cruse Bereavement. The weather was good and the company from all 82 of you who played, was superb.”

In total there were 18 prizes to play for with Terry Pescod winning overall with a score of 41 points.

Winner: Roger Peek — 38pts; Runner-up: Dave Jasper — 36pts; 3rd: Dave Allan —35pts

Division Two

Winner: John Doleman — 38pts; Runner-up: John Rumbold — 37pts; 3rd: Richard Boggis — 36pts

Division Three

Winner: Brian Roberts — 36pts; Runner-up: Chris Gynn — 35pts; 3rd: Alan Ferguson — 33pts

The ‘Nearest the pin’ winners were Jon Skyrme (4th), Richard Boggis (9th), Jon Skyrme (12th), Martin Thompson (15th) and John Russell (17th).

Best score for the Over 80s: Dave Endacott — 32pts

Men’s Section

Kirk Cup and Rover Vase — Sunday, August 19

BOTH competitions were strokeplay with the nett winner, James Reddecliff winning the Rover Vase and the best gross winning the Kirk Cup donated by past captain Gordon Kirk. That was won by Chris Turner.

Winner: James Reddecliff — 81-13 = 68 (winner of Rover Vase); Runner-up: Chris Turner — 76-6 = 70 (winner of Kirk Cup); 3rd: Ian Huggins 85-14 = 71
