Eight golf enthusiasts from South East Cornwall are set to take part in the Macmillan Longest Day Challenge on Sunday, June 21.

This entails the men attempting to complete 72 holes of golf on one day.

To further add to their challenge, they have decided to attempt the feat across four different golf courses in Cornwall.

The challenge will start at Lanhydrock Golf Club at 4.30am, before the players move on to the St Austell Bay club after which they will continue their attempt at the Carlyon Bay club. The Porthpean club is next with them finishing at St Austell Golf Club.

Organiser Seb Marriott said: 'All four of the clubs have very generously declined to take green fees from our players, which will enable us to donate all of the money raised to Macmillan Cancer Support.

'I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank these clubs for their support of this event.'

Seb will be accompanied on the challenge by Nick Sharp, James Matthews, Rhys Sullivan, Dan Sharp, Jed Langdon, Steve Howells and Martyn Hake, who all come from the Liskeard area.

They have split into two teams called RFL Golfers and RFL

Golfers 2 derived from their participation in the Real Fantasy Leagues competition, which is a privately-run Fantasy Football League.

The format of the Macmillan event is a 4 ball stableford. The national competition is held annually and last year it raised more than £750,000 for people affected by cancer.

The event culminates in a four-team play-off held at the Boavista Golf Resort in Portugal. The final four teams will be selected based upon competition scores and also the amount of money raised.

Truro's Rhys Enoch, who is the touring professional at Celtic Manor in Wales, has donated golf balls for the players and he is also providing the two South East Cornwall teams with a box of signed pro Vs for them to use to raise further funds.

Seb said: 'We are a group of friends who have known each other since our Liskeard School days and we all take part in a unique Fantasy Football League. We enjoy challenging ourselves while also raising money for a worthy cause.

'I saw this event pop up on my Facebook wall and thought that this event seemed to tick both of those boxes.'

The teams have several Just Giving pages set up to make supporting the team as easy as possible. This means any money donated via Just Giving goes directly to Macmillan.

Nick Sharp's Just Giving page is just giving.com/Nick-Sharp1 which people who want to donate can use or they can sponsor the men by texting NTTG75 5 to 70070 which would give £5 (changing the 5 after NTTG75 changes the amount donated) eg NTTG75 1 would donate £1).
