TENNIS is back under way again in 2016 and with it returns James Brobin’s ‘Coach’s Corner’.
The head coach for both Launceston and Wadebridge said: “It may be a little wet at times and sometimes a little cold but Wadebridge and Launceston tennis clubs are building momentum as we role in to exciting times for all involved at both Clubs.
“On the second weekend of January a Cornwall and Devon tennis coaches conference was held at the Dragon Centre in Bodmin — It was great to see so many coaches there as the event was both informative and well supported by both counties and beyond.
“Nick Wheal who is the head coach at the national tennis centre, and second in command for the GB Davis Cup team who recently became world champions, talked about the journey and objectives that were set since his appointment in 2012 —a very interesting and amusing talk which I am happy to share with any of you that might be interested.
“The Davis Cup legacy is going to have an impact on all counties this year with the aim of growing participation in tennis across the UK.
“I am also going to inform you that the amazing Davis Cup trophy will be visiting all counties before the end of the year!
“As head coach to both Wadebridge and Launceston tennis clubs participation is always our main priority and with a good team of coaches we are looking to increase the programme at both clubs, so please feel free to make contact to find out where you can fit in.
“The first competition for 2016 is clash of the clubs to be hosted by Bude on Friday, February 19. This competition will include the host club Bude, Wadebridge and Launceston.
“The competition is open to players in mini, junior and adult tennis. I hope to hear from you or see existing players in Bude for the first clash in 2016.”
