Launceston Cup — Semi Final

GUNNISLAKE avenged a Junior Cup defeat they suffered against Stratton earlier in the season by claiming a resounding victory in the first semi final scoring five goals without reply.

Stratton had a heavy schedule of games in the week prior to the game, completing five games in eight days, and their injury list and fatigue had an impact with Gunni’ looking the sharper side and in Keiran Jasper they had a goal scorer to emphasis their authority

Gunnislake finally broke the Stratton defence when the quick thinking Jasper struck a half volley that cleverly lobbed Adam Johns from 30 yards.

Jasper quickly added a second when he out muscled the Stratton defence before firing low into the corner of the net.

Stratton’s hopes of a comeback were quashed ten minutes into the second period when James Andrews fired home a beautiful free kick from the left hand side of the penalty area to give Gunnislake an unassailable lead.

Jasper then had a goal disallowed but he was not to be denied as another powerful run down the right flank was completed with a strong shot across the Stratton ‘keeper and into the net to complete his hat-trick. Stratton’s tiring players then allowed a long punt forward to evade them and Jasper latched onto the loose ball to complete the scoring.

The second semi final will be contested on Sunday, May 1, where North Hill of Duchy Two will take on North Petherwin of the Duchy Premier at Launceston AFC’s Pennygillam ground.
