JUST a handful of fixtures were fulfilled over the weekend as Storm Frank left football pitches across Cornwall and Devon waterlogged and unplayable.
All matches bar one were postponed across all three divisions of the South West Peninsula Leagues; in the one game that did survive the weather, Helston Athletic beat Saltash United 3-0.
Similarly across the two East Cornwall leagues, there was only one surviving fixture, and that was in the Premier division where St Stephens Borough lost at home to Bere Alston 5-3.
In the four North Devon Gazette Leagues, there were two matches played, with all others rained off. In the Premier division, visitors Shebbear United beat Fremington 5-2, and in the Senior division, Shamwickshire beat Combe Martin 7-4.
The Duchy Leagues and Kingsley League however didn’t see a single ball kicked, with every match postponed.
A full fixture list is ready for, hopefully, an action packed weekend of football, but it will largely be down to how well the groundsmen at clubs across Cornwall and Devon cope with the damage the heavy rain has caused over the past couple of weeks, as well as keeping their fingers crossed that there are some dry spells between now and Saturday afternoon.
Amongst the fixtures in the South West Peninsula Leagues, Camelford play host to Cullompton Rangers, Launceston travel to St Blazey, Bude Town are home to Porthleven, and Holsworthy host Penzance.
In the East Cornwall Premier division, bottom side Launceston, who are looking for only their second win of the season, are home to St Stephens Borough. In Division One, Bodmin Town is the destination for Holsworthy, who, if they win, could be within touching distance of the top four. Elsewhere, Morwenstow host Padstow United and Bude Town are away to Pensilva.
Due to the KMD Developments Cup and the TJ International Reserve Cup, there are fewer games than normal across the Duchy Leagues, but still many teams that are in action will be doing so for the first time since Christmas and New Year so will be looking to dust off their boots, run off those mince pies and get back into the swing of things.
North Petherwin travel to Looe Town in the Premier division, while Altarnun play at Gunnislake and LC Phoenix host Grampound in Division One.
In Division Two, Lifton are home to North Hill, St Breward to Stoke Climsland, and Tintagel to Godolphin. Division Three brings Delabole to Grampound reserves, while Kilkhampton host St Dennis and Padstow host Southgate in Division Four.
In Division Five, Boscastle are home to Foxhole Stars and Week St Mary to Wadebridge Town.
