BUDE Town, rock-bottom with just two wins to their name all season, caused the biggest upset of the season in Division One West, beating leaders Ludgvan 1-0 at Broadclose Park on Saturday.

Without a point in 2018, Bude defended heroically throughout, with a noteworthy draw looking possible as the game entered the final stages.

But in the 79th minute, the ball was laid back to midfielder Tommy Statton who hit a superb 20-yard drive into the top corner.

Bude saw out the remaining time to claim a stunning victory ahead of their Good Friday trip to old rivals Holsworthy (3pm).

Player/coach, Ryan Leverton, was left delighted and still believes that with just one team going down, they can pull off a great escape.

He said: “It was a really good team performance and everyone worked so hard, which hasn’t always been the case this season.

“It’s given us a big boost but we’ve got ten games left to try and stay up. We’ve still got to play Illogan and Plymstock twice, who are the teams directly above us as well as Holsworthy on Good Friday and most of the games are at home.

“However we know that we need to beat Illogan RBL on Monday to give ourselves a realistic chance, but we’ll see what we can do.”

Millbrook 4

Holsworthy 1

HOLSWORTHY?warmed up for their Good Friday clash with?Bude Town on Good Friday (3pm) with their third successive away defeat.

After losing 4-2 at Penzance on Wednesday night, the Magpies were understandably tired and found themselves 4-1 down at the break despite Adam Smith’s penalty making it 1-1.

To their credit, they defended well in the second-half.
