Eliot Astles, LC Phoenix, Centre Back, JJ Jones Builders Duchy League Division One
Who is the best player in your squad, and why?
Although there are many young athletes in our squad I’ve got to choose Nick Oldaker.
Turning 40 years old was a real milestone this year and he still shows commitment week in week out — showcased in his brace at the weekend.
Who is the best team you have faced or expect to face this season?
I’ve heard rumours Callington will be quite handy — and they score goals for fun.
Who is the best player you have or expect to face this season?
I was really hoping we’d face North Petherwin this year and play against Steve Greenaway. It’s always a laugh watching that journeyman hobble around a football pitch. Maybe next year.
What are your hopes for the season?
To enjoy playing local football with friends. If we can go up that would be ideal. I’m pulling out nutmegs from centre back recently which electrify the supporters — giving something back is important, hopefully that will continue.
What has been your favourite moment of your football career so far?
It could have been between the cup finals at youth football with Southgate, the undefeated Launceston U18s season, or the undefeated Phoenix season in Kingsley. However, rescuing another terrible Ryan Julian cross in the U18 cup final to head home was the most special for me.
