RGB Cornwall Senior Cup (second-round)
FOUR Post area clubs were knocked out of the competition on Saturday at the last 32 stage.
Ten-man Morwenstow lost 4-2 at home to St Cleer from the league below.
The Greens went one up after Aidan Davis dispatched a penalty in the opening 20 minutes. But the visitors replied in similar fashion, as they were also awarded a spot-kick shortly after.
St Cleer then went ahead shortly before the half-time whistle.
Following the break, an incident involving players from both teams saw referee brandish his cards, which was shortly followed by home-side forward, Gavin Carter being sent-off for dissent. However, Morwenstow managed to dig deep playing with ten men and late in the second-half Mark Skelton gave a glimmer of hope, as he headed home from a corner to bring the scores level.
Despite some chances and a controversial disallowed goal from Sam Hockin, who was deemed offside, the North Cornwall outfit were caught on the counter-attack twice and conceded two goals in quick succession, in the final exchanges of the match.
Elsewhere, St Piran League East side Bude Town were edged out 2-1 at Piran League West leaders Penryn.
East Cornwall Premier sides North Petherwin and St Minver took on St Piran League West sides St Ives Town and Perranporth respectively.
North Petherwin were in the game for long spells at home to their West Cornwall visitors but eventually St Ives proved too strong in a 5-1 success. Shaun Ellis was the Badgers’ marksman.
St Minver were well beaten by four goals to nil.
