THE Carlsberg South West Peninsula League has been given a boost with news that League secretary Philip Hiscox has committed himself to a further three-year term of office, taking him up to June 2019, despite considering calling it a day.
Exeter-based Mr Hiscox said: “On a personal level, this year’s choice to stand was the toughest decision that I have made.
“I could think of many reasons not to stand and was, in many ways, looking forward to a quieter life from this summer.
“However, the support and encouragement from those that run the actual clubs and League was the turning point. To have the support of the vast majority of club officials is paramount to being effective in this role, and I think I can say, without fear of contradiction, that I have their support and that, at the end of the day, is all that matters.”
The League’s Board has also been informed that vice-chairman Mike Pett, of Holsworthy, will remain in his role, although on a rolling one-year basis.
• The funeral of Carlsberg South West Peninsula League life vice-president Mike Howard will take place at Weston Mill Crematorium, Plymouth, this Friday at 11.30am.
The family have invited everyone back to the Saltash United clubhouse after the service to celebrate Mike’s life.
