Illogan RBL 2

A DOUR game spoiled by gusting winds and a bobbly pitch ended with the unexpected drama of a late winner from the halfway line.

Holsworthy cruised through the first-half and deservedly led after a neatly converted penalty by Nathan Bonney, but continued wastefulness in front of goal always kept Illogan interested.

The visitors introduced substitute Ashley Smeeth and he would prove the main factor in pushing his side a little closer to safety. His equaliser came from a corner and a draw seemed the inevitable outcome until Smeeth then whacked a clearance from the centre circle that caught on the breeze to fly in for a bizarre winner with five minutes remaining.

Bude Town 2

Sticker 1

STICKER’S promotion chase took a hit as Bude Town saw out a pleasing 2-1 win which sees them climb into the top ten.

Bude were very good on the day, opening the scoring when Billy Hopcroft was put through by Wesley Pugh. The striker showed great composure to slot the ball past the goalkeeper for 1-0.

They extended their lead, ten minutes before the break, when Billy’s brother Harry found Tommy Statton who beat the centre half and lobbed the ball into the back of the net.

Sticker came out stronger in the second half and scored from a free kick, with Sam Kenny volleying in for 2-1.

Bude withstood late pressure to hold on for another impressive result.
