LAUNCESTON Football Club’s under 11 girls team have finished third in the Cornwall Girls Football League’s indoor futsal tournament held at Treviglas Community College, Newquay.

With weather being a problem over the winter, manager Zoe Curtis decided to enter her team into the tournament to give them regular matches.

With 17 teams entered, they were split into two groups. Launceston came second, meaning they got to take on Biscovey Reserves for the right to finish third.

The Clarets comfortably beat them 3-1, leaving Curtis extremely proud of her players.

Curtis said: “We entered the futsal tournament on a bit of a whim after not knowing anything about it or ever playing it before, so we could carry on with football throughout January/February without weather cancellations.

The girls have absolutely excelled themselves putting in strong performances over the weeks with it paying off in the end as we came third.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure coaching this bunch of lovely, friendly, determined girls and hopefully we can take it into the Spring League, which starts this Sunday.”

Training is held on Wednesday nights at Trethorne Leisure Farm for under 9s right up to under 15s.
