Division One (West)

Bude Town 1

Plymouth Marjon 2

BUDE again paid the price for a sluggish start and despite another spirited second-half performance, fell short of picking up their first points of the season.

Marjon started much the better side and were far more confident in possession.  An eighth minute corner saw Bude keeper Gary Dinshaw forced into a superb reaction save from a close range header.

The pressure continued, and despite a lack of clear cut chances, Marjon took the lead in the 20th minute with a wonderfully struck 25-yard free-kick from Liam Donovan.

Bude continued to be wasteful in possession and the decisive blow came in added time of the first-half when Jacob Cameron scrambled home a scrappy goal to double their lead.

Bude improved in the second-half with Nathan Bonney, Tommy Statton and Harry Hopcroft all going close.

It was Josh Allen who reduced the deficit in the 70th  minute with a superb individual goal which saw him beat three players, shift the ball onto his left foot and curl the ball into the top corner.

An equaliser looked inevitable as Bude piled on the pressure.

A good crowd roared the home side on in the sunshine and it all seemed to pay off as Tommy Statton was hauled down in the area in stoppage time.

The resultant penalty was taken by Nathan Bonney but his well struck spot-kick rattled off the inside of the post with the keeper beaten. In the end, the Seasiders deserved a draw but paid the price for their sloppy first-half performance.

Walter C Parson Funeral Directord League Cup (second-round)

Bovey Tracey 2

Launceston 4

THE Clarets ended a difficult week in the best possible manner on Saturday, with an exciting League Cup victory at high-flying Division One (East) side Bovey Tracey.

Like many others in the area, Launceston suffered at the hands of Storm Callum, with at least one Pennygillam floodlight pylon damaged by the strong winds.

The lights will be examined and assessed in the next few days, but for safety reasons the system will not be used until those checks are done.

As a result, the club have rearranged some upcoming fixtures, with the next home game now against Helston on Saturday, November 3.

The Clarets had not played since the 2-2 draw with Cullompton on October 2 and were able to welcome back top scorer Sam Davey, out for almost two months with a knee injury.

Bovey are enjoying a fine run and remain unbeaten at home this season in the league.

Launceston opened brightly and took a deserved 13th minute lead. Jordan Hogan’s left-wing cross was met by Davey, whose clever flicked header was too accurate for home keeper Josh Nicol.

The Clarets dominated the early stages. Callum Watson hit the post, Reece Thomson blasted over when well placed and Jordan Walton saw an effort disallowed for what looked a marginal offside decision.

But at just 1-0 down, Bovey fought their way back into the game and Sean Finch equalised on 50 minutes with a looping header.

Launceston had a good chance to go in front again before the break but Davey saw his penalty well saved by Nicol after Watson had been brought down.

Fortunate to be level at half-time, Bovey came flying out after the break and took the lead on the hour when Finch was left with far too much time, and his shot comfortably beat Clarets keeper Josh Colwill.

But Launceston dug in and regained control before scoring three killer goals in a 15-minute spell.

Substitute Rhys Walton turned in a cross by Callum Watson and Ruben Kane converted an accurate Sam Davey centre before Jordan Walton completed the scoring in the 78th minute, from a Rhys Walton cross.

The third-round draw was made immediately after the game, giving the Clarets a home date with Division One (West) Dobwalls for the right to reach the last eight. The tie will be played on Saturday, December 8.

Holsworthy 1

Brixham 5

A FORTNIGHT earlier, the Magpies had knocked their visitors out of the Devon Premier Cup, but it was Brixham who got their revenge with a 5-1 victory at Upcott Field.

Brixham led 1-0 at the break despite Joe Barker hitting the post although the in-form striker dragged Holsworthy level soon after the restart.

Thereafter the visitors took control and added four further strikes. Liam McAuley scored a hat-trick with Carl Bradley adding a double.

Ivybridge Town 4

Camelford 0

CAMELFORD were convincingly knocked out of the League Cup by fellow Premier Division outfit Ivybridge.

The Ivies went into the game after advancing in the FA Vase, and took the lead through Scott Pocock.

The Camels were again missing players and found themselves 3-0 down before the break thanks to Kelvin Fyneboy and Sam Stevens.

Fyneboy added a second before the break while the Camels went away knowing they face a crucial four days.

On Tuesday evening they travelled to basement side Sticker before welcoming Newquay to Trefrew Park tomorrow night (7.30pm).
