Kitchen Kit South West Peninsula League Premier East

Ivybridge Town 3

HARRY Stevens’ first-half double wasn’t enough as Ivybridge Town produced a stirring second-half comeback to claim all three points at Erme Valley.

The Magpies dominated before the break and took the lead on 34 minutes when good work from Jed Harper-Penman and Wes Pugh allowed Pugh to pull the ball back across the six-yard box for Stevens to slot home.

A well-deserved second came in in stoppage time. More good work down the right from Harper-Penman saw him play the ball over the top for Stevens who showed incredible technique to take the shot on the volley and beat Kane Gregory from the edge of the box.

The Ivies are flying high in third and penned Holsworthy in for long spells of the second-half.

However they had to wait until the 72nd minute to get on the scoreboard as prolific striker James Rowe fired in after the initial shot was blocked.

The home side’s tails were now up and they levelled it up five minutes later as full-back Jake Lane took advantage of Lee Gardiner’s mistake to fire past Ryan Chadwick.

Just as it looked like Holsworthy were going to make the long trip home with an excellent point, Sam Ryan wriggled through in the 94th minute and placed a shot into the corner to keep Darren Stewart’s side firmly in the title picture.

Holsworthy are on the road again this Saturday when they head to bottom side Torrington (2.15pm), who are five points behind Liam Dart’s men.

Callington Town 1

Falmouth Town 3

CALLINGTON fell to their second home defeat of the week as Falmouth left Ginsters Marshfield Parc with all three points.

Cally had lost 5-2 to Millbrook in the Walter C Parson Funeral Directors League Cup in midweek, and fell behind to Luke Brabyn’s effort inside 15 minutes.

However the East Cornwall side do score their fair share and equalised on 22 minutes through midfielder Ricky Coton.

But Falmouth are enjoying another solid season and sealed the points in the second-half through Luke Johnson and Jack Bowyer.

Callington visit mid-table Wadebridge Town on Saturday (3pm).

Helston Athletic 4

Camelford 0

MARK Goldsworthy notched his 31st and 32nd goals of the season as Camelford were well beaten by one of the title favourites at Kellaway Park.

The Camels’ momentum has been stopped in recent weeks by a lack of games as they look to cement themselves in the top half of the table.

Arriving with just two substitutes against a side chasing their 14th league win in a row, the Camels needed to start well but found themselves a goal down inside five minutes.

Ed Timmons, a recent signing from Porthleven, doubled the hosts’ lead on 20 minutes, which was how it stayed until the break, despite Goldsworthy missing a penalty.

Camelford continued to battle away gamely and didn’t concede again until the 74th minute when former Bideford forward Billy Tucker engineered himself a shot into the box, which beat Luke Gwillam.

Goldsworthy did grab a second before the end, when he fired in from the edge of the box.

Camelford, who had a number of key players missing including Adam Sleep and Josh Insley, have another tough test on Saturday when they welcome fourth-placed Mousehole to Trefrew Park (3pm).

Launceston 0

Godolphin Atlantic 1

A THREADBARE Launceston side hit hard by injury, unavailability, suspension and, most disappointingly, departures from the club, fought bravely but couldn’t unlock a resolute Godolphin defence, writes David Harrison.

The Clarets, still dealing with the fall-out following the resignation of manager Gary Jeffery, were forced to select a back four with virtually no first team games behind them.

In fact only five members of Saturday’s starting line-up had any significant experience of SWPL football. Consequently it was unsurprising that the visitors should take the lead from their first meaningful attack.

In the eighth minute, Godolphin’s Joe Stone fed Dan Woodgate who beat Clarets keeper Josh Colwill with a well-placed drive into the far corner. The busy Marius Pislaru created Launceston’s first real chance, but visiting keeper Ethan Fearn reacted quickly to save.

Ruben Kane then looked sure to equalise from close range, but Fearn denied the Launceston man with an excellent sprawling block.

After the break the game developed into a midfield slog between two hard-working sides, doing their best to deal with a heavy surface. The visitors looked likely to stretch their lead when Woodgate dribbled through the Clarets defence, only to be brought down on the edge of the box.

Referee Richard Butter pointed to the penalty spot but attention was drawn to his assistant flagging to indicate the offence had been committed inches outside the area. To Launceston’s relief, the subsequent free-kick came to nothing.

The Clarets forwards worked tirelessly all afternoon but were unable to escape the close attention of a disciplined Godolphin defence as the Newquay-based side returned to the coast with a vital three points.

Launceston are next in action on Saturday when they travel to Plymouth Marjon (3pm) in the last 16 of the Walter C Parson Funeral Directors League Cup.

It is hoped that skipper Josh McCabe will be fit enough to start that game, along with regulars Denham Guild and Pat Riddell.
