CAMELFORD boss Bobby Hopkinson wants his side to ‘step up’ when they welcome early pacesetters Sticker tomorrow in the South West Peninsula League Premier West division (3pm).

The Camels fell to a second straight defeat on Wednesday night at Callington Town as the Pastymen cruised to a 4-0 victory at the Ginsters Marsh, a result and performance which left Hopkinson scratching his head, particularly after losing 3-0 at Bude Town four days earlier.

He said: “The last two performances have been far from the standards we created last season. Players mentality needs to be better and approach the game with more respect.

“Yes, we have got players injured or away, but hasn’t everyone? I’m not one to make excuses, we just have not been ready for the physical battle in the last two games.

“Callington deserved the win and were a very well-organised physical outfit who took their chances well and nullified us to very minimal. I was disappointed with the lack of desire our lads showed.”

Camelford aren’t helped at present by the absence of injured trio Jacob Turner, Liam Higgins and Andy Boxall , while skipper Tom Cowling is away with the RAF and others have missed games for various reasons.

Sticker arrive with four wins from four having scored 16 and conceded just one, and provide an acid test of what the Camels can achieve this term.

Hopkinson continued: “We have an opportunity to rectify Wednesday’s performance tomorrow against Sticker, a team in very good form, so our players need to step up and bring a performance worthy of that reputation we have set in previous games.”
