Duchy Knockout Cup (last 16)

Boscastle 2

SAM Haddy and James Bosley struck either side of the break as Premier side Boscastle booked their spot in the last eight of the Duchy Knockout Cup by beating Division One outfit Lifton on the 4G pitch at the Launceston College Playing Fields.

The tie was moved from Lifton due to the poor weather and kicked off at 4.45pm following Southgate Seniors’ dramatic 6-5 success over Gunnislake Reserves in the last 16 of the Shoeboy League Cup.

Boscastle arrived in good form although Lifton are also enjoying a solid season themselves.

Both defences were on top throughout most of the half with Bosley having a couple of chances for Boscastle.

However, the deadlock was broken shortly after the half-hour as Haddy placed a 25-yard free-kick into the bottom corner.

This woke the Reds up, but despite creating a couple of chances, they failed to seriously test stand-in keeper Nick Lawson.

The North Cornwall side doubled their lead shortly after the break as the in-form Bosley lashed the ball past Josh Chalk from six yards following a scramble in the box.

Lifton again responded but Lawson tipped a rasping shot over the bar.

Lifton struggled to create anything clearcut until the dying stages when Lawson was again called upon to tip a shot wide, but it was Robin Haddy’s side who went through.
