Local Football round-up — Saturday, November 9
Although plenty of matches were still postponed, there were a dozen or so fixtures that went ahead across Devon and Cornwall.
Callington Town’s home clash with Wendron United in the Cornwall Senior Cup was called off although Launceston and Camelford did play with the Camels winning 6-3 against St Dennis and Launceston losing 8-2 at Saltash United.
Callington’s tie has been rearranged for this Saturday, meaning Launceston’s trip down west to Wendron will have to wait.
Holsworthy haven’t played much recently. Their SWP Premier East clash at Axminster Town was also postponed.
The Piran League East programme was also decimated with Morwenstow still awaiting to play their League Cup tie against Liskeard Athletic Reserves. There were plans for it to be played for a fourth time on Tuesday night at Lux Park, but in the end, the pitch was deemed unplayable so they will try again in North Cornwall on Saturday.
Bude Town moved up to fifth in the Piran League East table with a 4-2 win at Lanreath. Scott Percy continued his superb recent run of form with a brace, while Ruan Tape and Harry Barrett were also on target.
The East Cornwall League programme never got started, but there was plenty of action in the rescheduled second-round ties in the Cornwall Junior Cup with Altarnun, Kilkhampton, Gunnislake and Tintagel all moving into the last 32.
Altarnun were 7-0 winners at fellow Duchy Premier side Stoke Climsland, which included a treble from teenager Alfie Gilbard, while Duchy Premier leaders Gunnislake smashed St Stephen Reserves 5-1 with Jan Humphrey also helping himself to a hat-trick alongside strikes from Lee Mann and Jamie Rowlands.
Tintagel are also in the top-flight and eased to a 6-2 success at Duchy Three Biscovey. North Devon League Senior Division outfit Kilkhampton set up a home tie in next round after a 5-2 victory at Duchy Two Calstock thanks to goals from Adam James, Ryan Thomas, Ben Thomas, Luke Darke and Nick Westlake.
However North Hill were knocked out, losing 8-2 at Mevagissey.
In the Duchy League, there were two games involving Post area clubs.
In Division One, Rob Elliot was the St Minver scorer in a 3-1 home defeat to Gorran.
Up the road at Delabole, there was an eight-goal thriller between the hosts and St Mawgan Reserves in Division Three.
Dan Mountain scored twice inside the opening 15 minutes for Delabole before the visitors drew level by the break, including a controversial penalty.
Mountain notched his hat-trick early in the second-half to make it 3-2 before St Mawgan responded once more from the spot.
Delabole thought they’d won it with two minutes to go when Mike Titchin was played through and scored, but St Mawgan were given a free-kick with seconds to go, which ended up in the back of the net.
The North Devon and Exeter and Devon League competitions were all rained off as were the outstanding ties in the Devon Senior and Devon Intermediate Cups, besides Lifton losing 3-2 at home to Exmouth Rovers in the third-round of the Devon Intermediate Cup.
