St Piran League East weekly round-up
BUDE Town got their campaign up and running last Tuesday night with a 3-0 success at Launceston Reserves.
The Seasiders lost 4-0 at home to St Austell Reserves in their opener three days earlier, but second-half goals from David Hales, Tommy Statton and substitute Scott Percy gave Josh Allen his first three points in charge.
Morwenstow also picked up their first ever win at Step Seven level as they thrashed Wadebridge Town 5-1 at Bodieve Park.
The Greens had lost 10-2 at home to St Mawgan in their opener, and after a closely fought first-half, the game was goalless at the break.
Come the second-half, it was a different affair, with Norman Foster breaking the deadlock early on. This was closely followed by a well-worked second goal, tapped in by midfielder Gary Walter.
Despite a resurgence from Wadebridge who managed to bring the deficit back to just one thanks to Adam Bennett, it was short lived, as Morwenstow’s half-time substitute, Aidan Davis, curled the ball from 18-yards into the top corner.
Any hope of a Wadebridge comeback was gone when Foster provided another cool finish to make it four. Tom Denford saved the best till last, after seeing the opposition keeper off his line, he struck the ball — close to the halfway line — which then nestled into the Bridgers’ goal, topping off a good night of redemption for the men in green.
Callington Town Reserves’ season got underway with a 5-0 loss at Torpoint Athletic A.
Cally were also on the receiving end of the same scoreline on Saturday when Launceston Reserves visited the Ginsters Marsh.
All five goals were scored by teenagers with Mark Elvidge and Alex Moore notching twice, while teenager Will Johnson was also on target.
Morwenstow were set to be the first opposition for St Dennis Reserves at Step Seven level. However the Blues were forced to concede due to player unavailability and injuries, meaning it is expected that the North Cornwall side will be awarded the points.
Bude Town picked up a point from the visit of Millbrook Reserves to Broadclose Park.
The game was goalless at the break before defender Chris Hill put the Seasiders in front. However the East Cornwall side grabbed a share of the spoils to leave Bude on four points from three games.
