South?West Peninsula League

Premier Division

Witheridge 1

CAMELFORD’S first home game since January was marred by news of the death of club legend Richard Burnett for which a minute’s silence was held.

The Camels took the lead on 35 minutes when, after Ed Harrison was brought down, Josh Insley dispatched the penalty kick.

Witheridge equalised with a bizarre goal when a defensive clearance ricocheted in off Luke Cole 20-yards out.

The hosts dominated the latter stages and eventually regained the lead when Insley’s crossfield pass found the speedy Josh Penrose to finish.

Shortly afterwards, the game was made safe when Bobby Hopkinson’s cross was deflected into the net, deceiving the goalkeeper.

Star man — Charlie Hambly (Camelford).

Exmouth Town 3

Launceston 2

LAUNCESTON’S performance was worthy of a share of the spoils yet somehow they found themselves three goals down by half-time.

On 25 minutes a cross from Mike Humphreys found Ace High who flicked home to open the scoring for Exmouth. Five minutes later, Luke Durham’s shot bounced in front of keeper Jordan Tewkesbury whose fumble allowed High to poke home his second.

On 32 minutes it was 3-0 when Jamie Dirrane scored his maiden goal when High headed the ball back to him from a corner.

After 67 minutes, Sam Davey controlled the ball well and crossed for Scott Blatchford to pull one back from close range before Davey’s knee diverted the ball over the unlucky Kurtis Parkin with ten minutes remaining.

Star man — Ace High (Exmouth).

Division One West

Holsworthy 2

Vospers Oak Villa 1

PLAYER-MANAGER Liam Dart described this win as the ‘most important of the season’ for Holsworthy and a result that leaves Vospers staring at the abyss.

A difficult pitch was almost befitting of the tension, as Holsworthy sought to avoid being dragged into an unexpected relegation fight, a hope ignited by Tudor Placinta adding another goal to his growing reputation.

Dart then exemplified home commitment by blocking a goalbound shot with his face and Holsworthy notched a decisive second when Nathan Bonney’s effort ricocheted off a visiting defender for an own goal.

Lewis Jago did pull a goal back for Vospers but the home side deserved their win, with special praise going to 16-year-old Max McDonald for a tremendous display in Holsworthy colours.

Star man — Max McDonald (Holsworthy).

Pensilva 5

Launceston 1

PENSILVA completed the double over Launceston although they had to recover from a 1-0 half-time defecit to do so.

Despite having the majority of the possession before the break, Pensilva were left stunned a minute before the break when Josh Harris surprised everyone by firing in from fully 40-yards out.

Pensilva got the perfect start to the second-half when, just three minutes in, Martin Putt headed in a Karl Gross corner. Substitute Paul Merritt then set up Sam Rogers to give Pensilva a 2-1 lead.

The hosts had to wait until eight minutes from time to seal the win when a good move involving Rogers and Lee Caers ended with Jack Podmore firing into the top corner of the net. Their fourth was another cracker when Merritt fired into the roof of the net.

Pensilva completed the scoring when Podmore found Aaron Barker who shot into the bottom corner of the net.

St Teath 0

Liskeard Athletic 4

LISKEARD Athletic ended an eight-match losing run with an emphatic victory over relegation threatened St Teath.

The visitors, looking much the livelier of the two sides, took the lead in the tenth minute through Matt Pascoe.

Fifteen minutes later Will Tucker doubled their advantage with Pascoe making it 3-0 at half-time.

The second period was a much closer affair with the only goal coming when Danny Jerram-Smith put through his own net to end St Teath’s miserable afternoon.

Division One

Bude Town 3

Wadebridge Town 1

BUDE Town ended a seven-match losing streak to give them some hope of avoiding relegation thanks to this excellent win over high-flying visitors Wadebridge Town.

The game was virtually all over by half-time with the hosts leading 3-0. Chris Hill started the ball rolling by giving the North Cornwall side the lead which was followed by Hayden White doubling their advantage.

Bude kept up the pressure with Scott Percy putting them into an unassailable lead. The visitors perked up in the second-half and reduced the arrears through Charlie Bickle. However, that was as good as it got as Bude held out for a rare victory.
