Local football round-up

DESPITE the local football season coming to its end, there were still a few teams in the Post area completing their fixtures last week.

In the Macron Devon and Exeter League, both Halwill teams concluded their programme.

After Darren Webber’s goal secured their survival a week earlier in Division Two, on Thursday night the firsts lost to Bow AAC 3-0 at home.

However it was the seconds who had a busy week.

On Bank Holiday Monday, Feniton conceded their penultimate league clash ahead of their Bill Slee Cup final on Wednesday night at Crediton, against fellow Division Four side Elmore.

Tudor Placinta shot Halwill into a second minute lead although Elmore hit back almost straight away.

After an even game, Elmore scored the winner late on. Both teams will meet in Division Three next season.

Runners-up Halwill ended their campaign on Saturday with a surprising 4-1 defeat at home to mid-table Winkleigh with Andrei Onofrei the scorer.

In the East Cornwall League, Launceston Reserves ended up third bottom in the Premier Division after losing 7-2 at home to Polperro in their last outing of the season.

Goals from Kevin Hatch and Mark Elvidge gave the Clarets a 2-1 lead at the break before the coastal club, who finished fourth, ran riot after the restart.

Seventh-placed Boscastle ended their first season back in the Duchy Premier League by beating an injury-ravaged St Newlyn East 2-1.

Goals from Danny Capstick and Cameron Barrett gave them their eighth win in 22 starts, and their 26th point in total.

The competitive fixtures end on Saturday as bottom side Ashwater go to mid-table Eastside in Intermediate Three of the North Devon League.
