BUDE Town Football Club celebrated the end of the season with their annual presentation evening on Friday, June 1.
The event was well represented by all three adult teams and was held in the clubhouse at Broadclose Park.
The night began with the committee awards where the men’s Alex Harrison won ‘Supporters’ Player of the Year’ award.
Harrison had been playing seven levels lower for Week St Mary in the Duchy League and performed admirably in his first ever season at Peninsula League level.
The Best Young Player went to the ladies’ Hannah Maloney, who is a very promising young player and is off to Yeovil Town Ladies next season.
Club legend Alf Dinshaw won the Supporter of the Year for his continued efforts to help the club and Courtney Ward collected the Clubperson of the Year for her tireless work behind the scenes.
The ladies’ playing awards saw Assumpta Britten win Most Improved Player, Lisa Cornish collect the Players’ Player and captain Katherine Bryant scoop Manager’s Player.
The ladies were promoted in 2016/17 and did well season to consolidate at a higher level with a mid-table finish in the Western Division of the South West Women’s Football League.
The veteran’s team won Division Two of the Q Cornwall Leisure Veterans League and made the cup final losing out to Downderry Rovers from the league above.
Paul Johns was chosen as their Player of the Year for his consistently high level of performance.
The men’s team had a very disappointing start to their campaign in Division One (West) of the Carlsberg South West Peninsula Football League as they won just once before Christmas.
However, they were in a celebratory mood after winning six of their last 10 games to stave off relegation and end the season on a high.
Tommy Statton claimed the Goal of the Season award for his stunning winner against Ludgvan at home while skipper Liam Sandercock was voted Players’ Player of the Year for leading by example with his performances in the second half of the season.
Goalkeeper Gary Dinshaw was awarded Ryan Leverton’s Manager’s Player of the Year trophy.
He had a fantastic season and some crucial saves and four clean sheets in the club’s vital run-in were all reasons for his nomination.
Secretary Richard Pinkus presented the final award of the night, the ‘Seasider Trophy’, which is awarded to a player that has contributed to every aspect of the club as well as having a good season on the pitch.
It doesn’t get awarded every year but Josh Allen was a very worthy winner. He ended as top goalscorer for the first team, has done some fantastic work coaching junior football and was a major part in renovated the clubhouse and covered standing area.
The night ended with music from Bude’s most popular DJ, Ricks Disco, who is also a Seasiders’ season ticket holder.
