North Devon Football League round-up – Saturday, October 18

MORWENSTOW picked up another crucial point in their first season back in the Premier Division following a 2-2 draw at Appledore Lions on Saturday.

The Greens, who lost influential striker Jake Gilbert to neighbours Bude Town on a full-time basis during the week, know they need to start sharing the goals around, and it was tricky winger Corrick Davies who grabbed both at Torrington, the second coming early in the second half.

However, the hosts, who won the reverse fixture back in August, responded and secured a draw thanks to Josh Reynolds’ brace.

Holsworthy Reserves’ clash with Boca Seniors Reserves was postponed due to the first team being at home.

Bradworthy had a weekend to remember as they won both of their fixtures 6-1.

On Saturday they visited Georgeham and Croyde in the Senior Division and made it eight wins from eight with Tudor Placinta, Harvey Dack and Niall Slade all grabbing braces.

They also entertained one-league higher Boca Seniors Reserves on Sunday in the Pickard Cup and advanced by the same scoreline.

The hosts led 4-0 inside half an hour thanks to Ben Silver, striker turned defender for the afternoon Tudor Placinta, Niall Slade and Shane Shadrick.

Boca were improved after the restart but conceded again via Harvey Dack.

An incredible moment made it six as goalkeeper Ben Walter’s long kick forward bounced over the goalkeeper and in.

Bradworthy conceded late on, but they headed into their week off, in fine shape for a promotion charge and cup run.

Neighbours Shebbear United had a tough day on Saturday as they were beaten 3-0 by visiting South Molton.

The Tangerines have struggled so far this term and sit second bottom, albeit just a point behind seventh-placed AFC Dumnonii Reserves and Combe Martin Reserves, the latter who they host on Saturday (2.30pm).

All three clubs from the Post area won in Intermediate One on Saturday.

Putford visited Fremington Thirds and eased to a 5-1 victory which included a brace from Tom Gleeson as well as goals from Arran Brooks, William Richards and sub Will Prouse.

Morwenstow Reserves edged a five-goal thriller at home to High Bickington.

It was 1-1 at half-time but Toby Trewin’s hat-trick sealed the contest in Morwenstow’s favour.

Holsworthy Thirds visited their Torridgeside counterparts and goals from Rory Piper and Rhys Streeter were enough for the Magpies to record a second win of the season.
