ALTARNUN Football Club have announced that they have completed work on their maintenance on the playing surface and changing room main door supplied by Horizon Home Improvements, Launceston thanks to investment from the Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund.
The grant will enable the Bodmin Moor-based club, who now play in the Duchy League Premier Division following the restructuring of the whole league, to improve.
The maintenance of the pitch and playing surface has been improved through the purchase of slitting machinery and chain harrows supplied by Vincent Tractors of Fraddon, Cornwall. This will help with the drainage throughout the winter months and greatly improve the playing surface, enabling the players to control and improve the football.
The club own their own ground following a lot of hard work and at present run one adult team with a lot of younger players.
The club worked in partnership with the Cornwall FA to secure the £1,098 grant from the Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund.
Club secretary, Kevin Sandercock, said: “With the help from the Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund, the grant will hopefully help grassroots football with our area and will hopefully bring us in more players after gaining promotion to the Duchy Premier.
“We are only a small village club but are looking to improve the club going forward. If you would like to play or help manage this friendly village club, please contact us.”
Paul Thorogood, chief executive of the Football Foundation, said: “The Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund is dedicated to improving grassroots sport across the country, and I am pleased to hear that their investment is going to support Altarnun FC in helping to improve the club’s facilities.
“This will be of real benefit to their players in developing their game. Through the investment of the Premier League, the FA and the government via Sport England, the Football Foundation is working hard to support improvement at all levels of the game, and this is a great example of its work taking place across grassroots football.
“Since 2000, the Football Foundation has delivered projects totalling £1.4-billion in grassroots sport investment, and it’s great to hear that Cornwall is benefitting from this.”
