PLYMOUTH ARGYLE have completed their seventh summer signing after bringing in forward Will Evans from fellow League One side Mansfield Town.

The 29-year-old Welshman has signed a two-year contract with the Greens, with the club holding an option to extend the deal by a further year.

Evans arrives at Home Park with an impressive goalscoring record and plenty of League One experience, having scored 50 goals across the past three seasons.

He began his career in the youth system at Shrewsbury Town before moving to Cardiff Metropolitan University, where he studied teaching while playing in the Cymru Premier League.

After making 122 appearances and scoring 22 goals, Evans earned a move to Bala Town before joining Newport County. He became a key figure for Newport, making 107 appearances and finding the net 29 times for the Exiles.

Evans then joined Mansfield in August 2024 and scored 25 goals in 98 appearances, including 10 in all competitions last season.

Now he is heading for Devon, with Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley confident Evans can develop further at Home Park.

“Will is someone I have tracked for a number of years, following his rise through the leagues,” said Cleverley. “He is quick, aggressive and a tireless runner offering both an outlet in behind but also an ability to play different positions.

“I see him moving forward as a number nine and his goalscoring record throughout his career has been very good. We feel we can develop him even further as we have done with our strikers previously and he will also complement the other forwards we have at the club.”

Director of Football Derek Adams believes Evans’ experience in the third-tier will prove valuable to Argyle.

“He has vast experience at League One level and proved to be a real threat when we came up against him last season,” he said. “He complements the age profile of the squad, and the coaching staff believe there is still real development to come from him.”

Evans admitted the size and history of Argyle made the decision to move to Devon an easy one.

“I’m over the moon to be fair,” he said. “When a club as big as Argyle come in, it’s hard to turn down. From conversations I’ve had and everything I’ve gone through today, it already feels like home. It feels like a really positive move for me.”

The striker says he is ready to bring his trademark work-rate, physicality and goalscoring threat to the Green Army.

“That’s what I want to do, that’s why I’ve come down here. I’m here to push the team and club as far as I can. One thing I will never let anyone do is question me about my commitment and how much I want to win and the hard work I will do for the team,” he said. “Whatever shirt I put on I give 100%, that’s exactly what I’ll be doing at Argyle.”

Meanwhile, the first Fans’ Forum of the season will take place on Friday (August 14). The event will begin at 6.30pm in The View at The Far Post with tickets free of charge and available on a first come, first-served basis.

The panel for this event will be made up of chairman Simon Hallett, chief executive Paul Berne and Derek Adams.
