A SPECIAL?evening was held at Trethorne on Saturday, June 11, as both current and past members of Altarnun Football Club, and supporters attended an evening of celebration of the club’s 70th anniversary.

First formed in 1946, Altarnun entered the Launceston and District League, and immediately had success, winning the league at their first attempt.

Over the years, the various teams have had successes in many competitions. It was fitting therefore to mark this period of 70 years, in the club’s history. Photos of many of the teams were on display - jogging memories of times past.

Whilst enjoying their evening meal - guests were treated to a live viewing of the European Cup match between England and Russia which saw the Russians equalise in injury-time.

Immediately after viewing that match — attention was turned away from the National team and on to the grassroots team of the club - when presentations were made in recognition of their efforts in the 2015/2016 season that has just ended

The evening proved a very successful celebration for all concerned.

Next on the agenda for the village club is an out of season event planned for Saturday, July 16 at 2pm at the club ground.

That afternoon will provide an opportunity for Altarnun veterans to come out of retirement - to play a match against a team of Southgate veterans.

There will be a BBQ, and a bar and tea, coffee and soft drinks will be available with all proceeds going to the club.
