LAUNCESTON and North Cornwall Motor Club held a MSA and BTRDA National Championship Trial at Marshgate on Sunday, September 16, as part of the Cornish Trials weekend.

Competitors came from as far afield as Yorkshire and Kent to compete in the David Ayers Sporting Car Trial; and whilst the entry was relatively low, it did include two former British champions.

There was a mixture of grass and woodland over 21 hills on steep but firm, dryish ground.

Low scores were the order of the day in a closely-contested event.

The eventual winner was Polzeath’s John Fack who managed to beat his twin brother Jerome (Wadebridge) by just one-point double driving the same car.

Broadwoodwidger’s Alan Murton was close behind to manage a superb joint third place and with it the Blue Class Award.

Alan’s performance was even more impressive given that he had to work on the car until midnight the night before, having to rebuild the front end, which had been wrecked in the previous day’s trial.

The club’s next event is another national championship event — namely the Tamar Classic Road Trial for cars and bikes on Sunday, October 21.

Results from Marshgate and details of the event are available at www.lncmc.co.uk

A large number of marshals will be needed to run the event. Volunteers are very welcome.
