LAUNCESTON’S Joe Wheeler has enjoyed another stunning year on the athletics track.
Joe, 12, runs for Tavistock Athletics Club and was entered into the four events, which made up the 2017 Devon Open Series.
Things couldn’t have gone better for the sprinter as he incredibly won all eight races he competed in at the opens, winning both the 100 metres and 150 metres in the under 13 Boy category at Braunton (twice), Tavistock and Plymouth athletics clubs.
He also took part in the Devon County Track and Field Championships and won gold in the 200 metres and silver in the 100 metres.
However, arguably the highlight of his year, was receiving a national standard certificate in recognition of the fact that he’s running at a national level.
Away from the running track, Joe still finds time to play football for Southgate Colts as well as attending Launceston College where earlier this year he broke a 20-year record in the Year 7 100-metres.
Joe’s mum, Sarah, said: “Joe thrives to do his best at everything he does and we are very proud of him. He dreams of being in the Olympics one day, so let’s hope his dreams come true.”
