TWO surfers from Bude have been selected to be part of the GB Junior Surf Squad ahead of the ISA World Games to be held in Nicaragua in June. Emily Currie and Miles Lee-Hargreaves are so proud to have been chosen and have been training hard every day, come rain, sleet, snow and sunshine to prepare to represent their country in the sport they love. The UK Government does not recognise surfing as a sport yet, so the squad cannot access any Government funding. It costs £30,000 to send a team, so the squad have to raise every single penny themselves. Emily and Miles are busy fundraising by selling raffle tickets with the first prize of £1,000 cash (only 1,000 tickets available). Other prizes include a custom made surfboard by Roger Tout, dinner and accommodation for two at a local hotel, wetsuits, shoes, t-shirts and hoodys, a variety of voucher and much more. The draw is to take place on Friday, May 17 at Bar 35, Bude, with local singer and guitarist Jim Keir kindly donating his time. You can help support Emily and Miles by purchasing a raffle ticket and supporting them in their quest to raise the £1,000 each they need to fulfil their dreams and represent their country in both World and European international events. Tickets are available from Emily, Miles, Elements Hotel, Edgecombe Hotel and Sam Edwards Garage.
