ON Friday April 27, seven Launceston Road Runners took part in the 'St Luke's Run the Shops 2012', a three day torch relay around all the St Luke's shops in the Devon & Cornwall area.
Our relay leg involved a rather undulating route from Launceston to Callington, via Rezare, Beals Mill and Stoke Climsland, plus a time limit of around 1hr 40mins, so with a little delay for photos at the start the pressure was on.
Peter McAughey Kevin and Lavinia Marshall, Julie Barriball, Philippa Baker, John Brown and Jon Spettigue all took turns in running various sections of the route and carrying the Olympic style torch, although Peter and Kevin did complete the whole distance.
On reaching Callington, the whole group ran in through the town together much to the bemusement of some local shoppers on a Friday afternoon, but received a warm welcome from the staff of the St Luke's shop. With just enough time for a photo outside the shop it was then chance to have some refreshments and reflect on what had been achieved. A brilliant effort by all involved.
