Abergavenny Youth - 45

NHSOB Youth - 12

ABERGAVENNY Youth saw off a confident NHSOB Youth team to lift the Gwent Youth District Cup on the weekend.

NHSOB fielded a large pack of forwards and some talented backs and looked fired up for the fixture during the warm up.

During the first half, both teams were evenly matched with good play from both sides, but it was Abergavenny who opened the scoring with a try by scrum half and man of the match Owain Leonard, unconverted.

An Abergavenny penalty followed, and NHSOB opened their account with a five metre scrum - scored and converted by their outside half.

Aber scored again before the interval to go in at half-time 17-7.

In the second-half, NHSOB scored a nice try through their number eight and former Abergavenny player Ashley Gibson, who cut a nice angle through Aber's defence, but Abergavenny's superior pace, power and fitness showed as they piled on the pressure and scored six tries. (Two for Owain Leonard, three for number eight Alex Mcglynn and one for full back James Coulton.)

Despite Abergavenny running away with the scoreline, the match was played in good spirit and all credit to NHSOB, they kept their heads up and played to the final whistle.

A spokesperson for the club said, "It was an outstanding performance by the players and a deserved win. Special thanks must go to Elis Preece, Josh Smith and Gethin Price who are three quality players, but who we just couldn't use on the day due to a limited squad size."
