Launceston and District Darts League sponsored by the White Hart Hotel

Open Division Singles and Doubles at the White Hart Hotel — Monday, March 25

Singles

THE singles competition was a hotly contested affair with the best player from each of the 12 teams being invited to put forward.

In the semi-finals, favourite Rob Jane (Archers Arms A) was forced to dig deep to overcome Fred Philp from the Pint and Post 2-1, while Wanderers’ Jason Seldon caused a shock as he beat Countryman B’s Josh Fry by the same scoreline.

The final saw Jane ease to a 2-0 victory, which included a 22-dart leg.

Doubles

IAN Freestone and Luke Dunkin (Archers Arms A) narrowly failed to defend their title in a dramatic final against Countryman B, who were represented by skipper Mark Edwards and John Fry.

Both teams missed a whole heap of doubles in front of those who had stayed behind to watch, but in the end, Edwards hit both doubles to ensure the league leaders added a cup to their collection.

In the semi-finals, Kensey Clowns (James Doney and Warren Wright) were narrowly edged out by Archers Arms A while Countryman got the better of Tribull duo Ant James and Steve Quirk, 2-0.

During the doubles, Doney managed a 180 while Vic Cooper took out a 103 finish.

Ladies Knockout Cup final — played at the White Hart Hotel — Thursday, March 28

COUNTRYMAN Ladies denied Castaways the league and cup double after winning the Ladies Knockout Cup final last Thursday.

After the team matches had finished, Countryman led 3-0, meaning that Castaways had to win all four singles.

However, despite pulling one back, the second singles went the way of Countryman who were also the runners-up in the league.

There were also three rearranged games played last week to end the league season.

Castaways ensured they won all 16 of their matches after winning 4-3 at Westgate Maids, who also won 7-0 against Wanderettes.

The other match saw Fillies finish third after a 5-2 victory over Flyers.
