Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Three East round-up – Saturday, July 19

TINTAGEL’S promotion hopes took a blow on Saturday as they were beaten by strugglers Roche Seconds at Butts Field.

Tom Parsons fell off the first ball of the match and the Knights found themselves 20-3 in the fifth over with Matt Jolliffe (1) and Ryan Pooley (0) out in the space of two balls.

Glen Burrell (46) and Jordan Burnard (51no) put on 63 before another collapse made it 100-7.

Burnard was then joined by tailenders Jack Minehan (22) and Vedavyas Kankanala (21) to help the hosts reach 187 all out.

The chase was remarkable as Roche won following a remarkable 61 extras from Tintagel and a superb ninth-wicket stand between Paul Trethewey and Toby Pritchard.

They came together at 123-8 after Toby Jarvis had taken 5-42, but with plenty of time and nearly a third of the target given to them, they got over the line.

Roche’s victory was bad news for Launceston who were comfortably beaten at second-placed Saltash.

The Ashes racked up a healthy 258-5 after being sent in with no Launceston bowler taking more than a wicket as Dan Snowdon carried his bat for 108.

The visitors then slipped to 40-3 in the 12th over and although Gavin Wallis made 60 and nine of the 11 batsmen reached double figures, of the rest, nobody made more than Toby Theobald’s 22 in their 191 all out.

South Petherwin are 17 points off Saltash after they thrashed an understrength Ladock side by 117 runs.

Opener James Weeks led the way with 93 while forties from Andrew Brenton (47) and Jacob Masters (45no) helped them reach 242-4 from their 40 overs.

Ladock lost Indian Vivek Oza for just eight and were dismissed for just 125 with Masters (3-12), Adrian Clements (2-19) and Owen Barnes (2-23) the chief wicket-takers.
