Cornwall Cricket League Division Four, Five, Six and Seven East round-up – Saturday, May 31

WERRINGTON Thirds saw their unbeaten start to the season end at Liskeard on Saturday in Division Four.

The home side made an imposing 269-3 at Lux Park despite two wickets for Paul Miller who then made 87 in their response of 239-7.

Rob Dymond (54) and Lee Houghton (41) also got stuck in.

Launceston Seconds saw off Gunnislake by four wickets at Lawhitton.

Despite two early wickets for Shane Davey (3-57), the visitors were rocketing along at 98-2 thanks to skipper Dinesh Thirupuvanarajah (30) and Russell Holloway (50).

Indy Worth separated them and the home side fought back with Martin Vanstone (3-42) leading the way.

Number nine Graham Murray then added 44 as Gunni reached 199-9.

Launceston were 0-2 before Adil Raza (24) and skipper Josh Theobald rallied.

Theobald and Danny Sloman put on a match-defining stand of 129.

While Theobald made a composed 84 not out, it was Sloman’s 69 from 51 balls which included five fours and as many sixes that changed the momentum.

There was some late nerves including three big lbw appeals being turned out, but Launceston crawled over the line.

Holsworthy Seconds grabbed their first win as they saw off bottom side Pencarrow by 67 runs at Stanhope Park.

The Trees made 209-8 which included 81 not out from first team captain Ryan Walter who could only play at home.

Pencarrow were in command at 111-2 with Liam Coles (63) and skipper Tristan Jago (33) at the crease.

But once they were separated by Tony Johny (5-30 off 8.2), they slipped to 142 all-out in no time. Liam Brend took 3-17.

St Minver Seconds were thrashed by nine wickets at Wadebridge Thirds.

St Minver were 93 all-out which included 25 from Matt Gilbert, before the home side raced to victory. Finn Wilkinson was 50 not out.

Luckett Seconds are just five points off second in Division Six East after a three-wicket success at Roche Thirds.

The home side recovered from 19-3 to post 139-8 despite wickets for Gareth Clements (2-14), Steve Brown (2-34) and Martin Budden (3-38).

Luckett found themselves 92-5, but surviving opener Ian Roberts’ 46 plus an unbeaten 13 from Richard Seeley sealed it.

Bude Seconds were well beaten at St Austell Fourths.

Seventies from Al George and Matt Ellison propelled the hosts to 237-8 despite braces from Mike Taylor (2-43) and Mark Whitefield (2-23).

The Seasiders reached 124-6 in reply, nobody making more than Whitefield’s unbeaten 24.

Werrington Fourths are off the mark after seeing off fellow strugglers South Petherwin Seconds by seven wickets.

Petherwin batted through their 40 overs to reach 143-2 with Nick Gerry 43 not out after Sam Payne retired on 50.

Adam Paynter then made 47 before Joe Gent (51no) and skipper Ian Wills (26) got Werrington over the line with 39 balls to spare.

Unbeaten Tintagel Seconds secured a 154-run victory at Launceston Thirds in Division Seven.

The visitors recovered from 123-6 to reach 245 all-out thanks to Joe Parsons (78) and Mark Luxton (40) as Peter Wilton (4-33) and Kieren Welch (3-61) shared seven wickets.

Launceston were dismissed for 91 in reply although 15-year-old Robbie Gribble impressed with 36 from just 39 deliveries.

Opening bowlers Kane Hartland (2-16) and Josh Fry (4-33) shared six wickets.
