ST MINVER were knocked out of the Clive Rosevear Insurance Hawkey Cup last night after a 34-run defeat to County Division One outfit Grampound Road at Menefreda Way.

The Grasshoppers were looking to produce a shock result against their one-league higher opponents and were in the game for long periods.

However Jack Mingo’s unbeaten 30 off just 16 deliveries towards the end of Grampound’s 144-5 meant the home side were up against it.

The majority of the St Minver attack bowled well with Elliott Dodd’s 3-19 for the pick, while Josh Sanders, often in the second team, sent down three overs for just nine as well as taking a wicket.

The home reply got off to a steady start, but once openers Ben Hawken (25 off 27) and Antony Ash (31 off 31) departed, the acceleration required wasn’t forthcoming as they finished on 110-8.

Grampound Road visit Newquay in the quarter-finals on May 24, the same night holders Werrington host Wadebridge, Callington welcome Lanhydrock and St Austell take on Roche.
