Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League

ECB Cornwall Premier League

Grampound Road (50 all out)

Callington (54-0)

CALLINGTON romped to an easy 10-wicket win at Grampound Road, in a game that was all over by 3pm, writes Lewis Bond.

The match started on time at one o’clock and the home side won the toss and elected to bat.

Alex Lean was caught behind by Rhys Davies off Rob Mutch’s second over and his opening partner David Hoskings was bowled by Sam Pengelly one over later.

Virendra Yadav and Chris Roberts took the score on to 42, with Yadav hitting three fours, before Roberts was bowled by Aidan Libby for eight.

This was when the wheels came off The Road’s innings, thanks to an inspired spell by leg spinner Harry Sawyers.

Five home batsmen recorded ducks as Grampound Road collapsed from 42-3 to 50 all out in the 22nd over.

Yadav made 24, but when Matt Petherbridge trapped Lewis Sanders lbw, it was all over.

Sawyers finished with the excellent figures of 6-12 from five overs. The other four wickets were shared, but mention should be made of Libby who took 1-1 from four overs.

After a 10-minute turnaround, Callington opened with Libby and Luke Brenton, and they proceeded to make very light work of the modest target against the all spin opening attack of Yadav and David Neville.

Libby, in particular, was in a destructive mood and finished not out on 38, which included eight fours in 28 balls.

Brenton finished unbeaten on 16 as Callington swept to victory in only 8.2 overs in little more than 20 minutes.

This comprehensive victory lifts Callington well into the top half of the Premier Division table and sets up a home tie with Camborne on Saturday, followed by the T20 Finals Day on Bank Holiday Monday, again at Grampound Road, when they play Wadebridge in the first semi-final at 10.30am.
