Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Premier Division to Division Four East round-up – Saturday, May 2
THE entire Cornwall Cricket League programme failed to see a game finish on Saturday as the opening day was ruined by sweeping rain that came in by 3pm.
All the Post area clubs were in action across the divisions with several starting well.
Werrington welcomed Grampound Road in the ECB Cornwall Premier League and had the visitors rocking at 44-3 after 13 overs as Dan Barnard bowled a beauty to bowl Harry Phillips, before Sam Hockin had the dangerous Tom Orpe caught by Mark Gribble in the covers.
In the last over of the day, Ben Smeeth bowled Harry Gregory on the sweep as Werrington started with nine points.
Callington reached 11-0 after 2.1 overs against champions Penzance in the same division.
Luckett’s first venture into County Division One since 2012 started okay at Newquay as the hosts were 35-1 in the ninth over when the rain set in. Skipper Andrew Hoskin dismissed Joe Crane (13) via a Leion Cole catch.
The eagerly-anticipated Division Two East derby between Holsworthy and Bude saw 14.1 overs of play at Stanhope Park with the Cornishmen easing to 59-1.

Although opening bowlers Jack Greening and Dan Smith were generally tight, openers Warren Rumble (23no) and Wayne Adams (19) cashed in on anything loose, including striking three sixes between them.
Adams departed when he was bowled by Smith going for a big shot down the ground, but Matt Whitefield (9no) continued the momentum.
Promoted Tintagel fielded first at much-fancied Lanhydrock and had the hosts 65-1 from 13 overs with Australian Jack Minehan dismissing the dangerous Amir Khan for just seven.
Mike Horne (33no) and Luke Buckland (17no) were going well.
Werrington Seconds headed to Menheniot-Looe and started in dreary conditions at Fourgates.
George Rickard pulled up after two balls of the match, but skipper Jason Seldon did at least take the wicket of the dangerous Luke Ripley as the hosts reached 29-1 after seven overs.
Callington Seconds were given a glimpse of the talents of St Blazey’s new overseas player Henro Bouwer who was 40 not out from just 20 balls as the hosts raced along to 73-1 after 11 overs.
Blaze Eigenmann dismissed Josh Carne for just seven, but went for 47 from his five overs.
Taylor Gerry raced to 57 from as many balls before being dismissed as South Petherwin reached 122-2 at relegated St Minver in Division Three East.
He and fellow opener Billy Martin (29) got off to a flyer before veteran Rob Hawken (0-8 off 6) pulled things back somewhat. Adrian Warne was 21 not out when they went off either 22 overs gone.
Launceston are down in Division Four following relegation and were 61-4 from 14 overs against visiting Liskeard who saw skipper Andrew Cobb take 2-7 from six miserly overs.
Skipper Finlay Worth led the way with 31 not out.
Werrington Thirds got off to a bad start at St Stephen, slipping from 40-0 to 55-4, but had recovered to 89-4 with chairman Adam Paynter (35no) and the experienced Dan Warring (15no) digging in.
Callington Thirds found it tough going at Tideford in the 10 overs possible at the Port Eliot Estate Ground, reaching 35-2 with second team opening bowler Spencer Whatley – playing as a batsman due to injury – out for 25.
