Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League preview — Saturday, August 31

WITH just two games to go, all eyes are on the County One survival battle heading into tomorrow’s penultimate round of fixtures.

Both Launceston and Werrington seconds are in the thick of it following Werrington’s incredible 217-run win in the derby at Ladycross, which saw John Moon’s first century for the club.

Werrington, four points adrift of safety, welcome Ludgvan (12.30pm) knowing that with Gorran facing winless St Austell seconds, they must win.

If both sides pick up 20 points then Launceston need to ensure at the very least they earn a healthy return of bonus points when they head to Camborne, who will win the title with a victory.

To add to the drama, Launceston host Gorran on the final day at Lawhitton.

In the ECB Cornwall Premier, Callington head to Wadebridge (12.30pm) knowing that a win and a defeat for Falmouth at St Austell would all but guarantee survival.

However they will need to improve their poor recent batting performances if they are to do so.

Wadebridge beat Werrington by five wickets on Saturday, which means Werrington look set to finish third.

They make the long trip to old rivals St Just, who themselves have had a season of transition.

With just a handful of games in divisions four and below left, the rest of the focus is on Division Two East and Division Three East.

St Minver moved out of the bottom two last time out at Menheniot-Looe, but with it still unclear whether the bottom two or three go down (depending on whether two east clubs or one west and one east go down from County One), they’ll look to maintain their momentum when they welcome fifth-placed Bude, who are 27 points ahead of St Minver.

Luckett welcome second-bottom Saltash Town to Chapel Field, hoping to rack up another big score following their 449-4 last weekend at home to Ladock.

In Division Three East, just four points separate fourth-bottom Roche seconds and basement club Launceston seconds.

The North Cornwall side have a home date with Newquay seconds, while elsewhere, Bude, just one point ahead of Launceston, welcome mid-table St Austell thirds.

Tintagel, looking for a seventh straight win, head to Roche while Callington welcome St Neot and in-form South Petherwin entertain promoted leaders Holsworthy who can ill-afford to slip in the title race with St Blazey, who are five points back, right over their shoulders.

The rearranged games in Division Four see bottom side Delabole welcome Luckett seconds, with the visitors needing 19 points to finish seventh.

Mid-table Milton Abbot welcome third-placed Wadebridge thirds in Division Five East with the hosts guaranteed to end up sixth.
