LAUNCESTON Cricket Club recently held their presentation night at The Eagle House Hotel in the town.

The 2026 campaign was an encouraging, yet slightly frustrating one for the Lawhitton-based outfit as the first team missed out on an instant promotion back to Division Three East following a final day defeat at Newquay Seconds despite needing just eight points to take the title.

However, the seconds comfortably avoided the drop in Division Five and the ever-improving thirds won some games in Division Seven East.

For the firsts, medium-pacer Matthew Bloomfield was comfortably the pick of the bowlers with 35 wickets and was rewarded with both the bowler of the year and Fin Worth’s captain’s player trophies. Worth himself had a good season opening the batting and with his left-arm spin, while dad Kevin took the batting award.

Signs of progress were also evident off the field with a bigger focus on training and social events as they look to rebuild before an assault once again on next year’s Division Four title.

The winners of the awards were as follows: First Team: Batter – Kevin Worth; Bowler – Matthew Bloomfield; Captain’s Player – Matthew Bloomfield; Second Team: Batter – Phil Spry; Bowler – Oliver Keates; Captain’s Player – William Mansfield; Third Team: Batter – Johnny Knight; Bowler – Harley Knight; Captain’s Player – Alfred Mansfield.

Club awards were also handed out, including Martin Vanstone and wife Shirley being given Pete West’s Chairman’s Award for the running of the bar, while skipper Worth’s work on and off the field was recognised by taking the Michael Spence Award for youth who show great dedication to the club. Ed Manfield had the dubious honour of the ‘Most Ducks’ trophy.

Alfred Mansfield (far left) was the third team's Captain's Player, while Ryan Vanstone collected the Chairman's Award on behalf of his parents for their sterling work behind the bar.
