LAUNCESTON Cricket Club held their CricketFest weekend from Friday, July 7 to Sunday, July 9 at their Lawhitton home.

On Friday, they hosted the Cornwall Schools Games girls under 13s and under 15s finals, which started at 11am and utilised four pitches.

Once that had finished, the usual All Stars Cricket session for children between the ages of five and eight took place as well as juniors training, before a BBQ was put on by the club and run by some of the parents.

On Saturday, the second team beat their Menheniot-Looe counterparts by just one run on the main pitch, while Callington thirds, who play some home games on the third team ground, won by two wickets against Menheniot-Looe thirds.

Sunday morning saw the under 11s ease to victory over Liskeard in the Tamar Youth League before a BBQ lunch was enjoyed.

Once the food had settled down, the juniors took on their parents in a 14-aside match to round off the weekend.

Junior co-ordinator Bill Glen was delighted, adding: “It was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. The parents and children both commented on how much they enjoyed themselves and everyone got involved.

“We had parents helping run the BBQ on the Friday night which was great to see and it shows that we’re moving in the right direction.

“We had over 60 people on both Friday and the Sunday while both games of cricket on Saturday went down to the wire so we couldn’t really ask for more.

“Thank you to the coaches, parents, players and everybody who came along.”
