HOLSWORTHY Cricket Club held their annual presentation evening at the White Hart Hotel, Holsworthy on Saturday, October 28.

The evening was well attended by young and old and past and present members.

A wonderful two-course meal was followed by speeches from chairman Dave Gerry, club captain Ryan Walter and youth cricket manager Dan Marks before Lyndon Piper gave an update on the new Holsworthy Area Sports Pavilion, which will be completed in the New Year.

Once the speeches had been completed, there was the presentation of the trophies.

Ryan and Dave thanked everyone who had helped and contributed over the season and for all their hard work on and off the pitch.

There were special mentions to club secretary Jane Ivey, who has done so much work behind the scenes, Jason O’Dell for all the work he has done regarding teas, Steve Pitts, who has only recently moved to the area but taken a very keen interest helping with pitch and outfield preparation and to club scorer, Alan Webster.

2017 was a great year on the field with the Saturday side winning the LWC Drinks Cornwall Cricket League’s Division Four East title, without losing a game.

Ryan said: “It was a great achievement for the club and all the lads are already looking forward to next year and challenging themselves in Division Three East.

“The Sunday team have also had a great year coming second in Division Three of the North Devon League and gaining promotion at the first time of asking after relegation the previous season.

“The Sunday XI is all about developing the younger players coming into men’s cricket for the first time and this year we have had three that stepped up and done extremely well. Gerry O’Donoghue, Jack McAllister and Adam O’Dell have had a great year and everyone at the club is looking forward to these three progressing in the coming years.

“The youth side has gone from strength to strength with over 40 youngsters now turning out every week, and the progression over the year from them all has been great to see. George Orr-Wilcox and Dan Marks have done a wonderful job with the youth and we look forward to this growing next year, and one or two younger faces playing in the men’s team for the first time.”
