THE fixtures for the 2020 Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League campaign have been released.
The season gets underway on Saturday, April 18 and runs until Saturday, September 12, with Bank Holiday fixtures being abolished at the request of clubs.
The ten Premier League clubs will once again compete in the second edition of the Tribute T20 Kernow Crash over the first four Saturdays, which culminates in a finals day on Sunday, May 24.
Like last year, Werrington and Callington have been placed in Pool B and once again will face off in a double-header on the opening day, this time at Callington.
Each team will play the same opponent twice on the same day, meaning eight fixtures in total.
At the request of clubs, the teams have been divided into two non-geographical pools by the league management committee, however, some local derbies have been maintained. Where there are repeat fixtures from last year, the venue has been reversed.
Both sides have recruited over the winter, with Callington likely to give debuts to the likes of Sri Lankan all-rounder Sanoj Darshika, former Launceston and Somerset Seconds left-armer Rob Mutch (pictured above) and ex-Luckett batsman Luke Brenton, while the North Cornwall side should include new recruits, Australian bowler Tom Scoble and Cornwall spinner Andrew Libby.
Pool B also includes Truro, Camborne and Redruth.
The ECB Cornwall Premier League starts on Saturday, May 16 with 18 fixtures being played.
Werrington, third last year, and champions four times in the last decade, make their longest trip of the season on the opening day, as they go to Cape Cornwall Road to tackle St Just.
A tough beginning sees them host last year’s runners-up Redruth on May 23 before rounding off the month with a visit to Truro. The derby dates with Callington see them host on July 4, before visiting Moores Park on the final day.
The eagerly-anticipated showdowns with champions Penzance are pencilled in for June 13 and August 15, the latter of which is in West Cornwall.
Callington stayed up with a game to spare in 2019, and have the toughest possible start as they entertain Penzance, who have recruited heavily in the off-season and have kept former first-class players Greg Smith and Tom Wells.
A trip to Grampound Road awaits a week later before a crucial home clash with promoted Camborne.
County One to Division Five are made up of 12-team divisions and get underway on Saturday, April 18.
Werrington Seconds survived in County Division One last summer following a miraculous late turnaround.
They welcome relegated Falmouth to Ladycross on the opening day (April 18) before heading to another of the division’s better sides, Beacon. A trip to Beacon awaits Werrington on the final day.
Launceston looked set for relegation after finishing behind third bottom Ludgvan by a point, but following the league’s decision to demote Troon due to ECB Clubmark issues and Rosudgeon taking voluntary relegation, they have been given a reprieve.
They start the season with a home clash against Gorran before heading to Ludgvan.
The derby dates with Werrington are set for July 27 and August 29, with the latter at Lawhitton.
Division Two East sees four Post area clubs compete with Holsworthy set for their first ever campaign in the third-tier.
They start with a home game against Grampound Road Seconds before heading to Luckett seven days later. The derbies between Holsworthy and Bude’s first teams are set for May 2 and September 5.
Luckett have lost a plethora of players but have chosen to keep their firsts in Division Two and second team in Division Four. They head to Menheniot-Looe on the opening day.
Bude and St Minver struggled at times in 2019 before surviving. Bude make the long trip to St Erme, while St Minver, who have signed Ryan Pooley from Tintagel, host Tideford.
St Minver’s derby dates with Wadebridge are set for May 30 and August 1.
Werrington Thirds secured an instant return to Division Three East and have a home clash with neighbours Launceston Seconds as their curtain-raiser.
Launceston themselves were only allowed to stay up after Buckland Monachorum chose to stay in Division Four, but will be confident of faring much better.
Launceston host Roche in their first home game with Werrington going to Boconnoc.
South Petherwin rebuffed the league’s invitation to play Division Two cricket, but should fare well once more having finished third last year. They start at Newquay Seconds.
Promotion-favourites Callington Seconds visit St Austell Thirds on the opening day before hosting relegated Ladock on April 25.
Tintagel are the fifth Post area club in the division and will look to build on their fifth-placed finish in 2019. They start at Roche seconds before St Austell are the visitors to Butts Field seven days later. With five Post area clubs participating there are derbies galore to look forward to.
Bude Seconds will hope to be at the top end of Division Four East come September, having gone down by just two points.
They start by welcoming promotion-favourites Saltash St Stephens to Crooklets before going to their promoted St Blazey counterparts.
South Petherwin Seconds, along with Wadebridge Thirds and Menheniot-Looe Seconds, all came up from Division Five following the decision to make Division Four and Five East revert back to 12-team divisions.
Petherwin start by hosting Buckland while Wadebridge Thirds host another Post area club in Delabole, who were reprieved despite coming last.
Delabole host South Petherwin in their first home game while Luckett, who host Menheniot-Looe Seconds at the Chapel Field on the opening day, go to their Lanhydrock counterparts.
Players in the second teams of Tintagel and St Minver will be eagerly awaiting their curtain raiser as the sides meet in Division Five East at Butts Field. When St Minver rejoined the league ahead of last season, a number of players left Tintagel. However both sides finished in the top three and went up as a result.
Milton Abbot are the other Post area club in the division. They start by hosting Pencarrow before making the long trip to St Erme.
Division Six has been split into three divisions of eight with Launceston Thirds, Werrington Fourths and Gunnislake all competing in the East section.
All eight teams will play 21 games, starting on April 25.
Gunnislake host Launceston on the opening day with Werrington hosting Boconnoc Seconds, who entertain Gunnislake a week later. Launceston’s first home game is a visit from their Menheniot-Looe counterparts.
The derbies between Werrington and Launceston will be held at Ladycross on June 13 and August 29, and at Lawhitton on August 15.
