BUDEHAVEN sixth former, George Lumley, was selected for the Cornwall Under 21 squad to face the Royal Navy last Wednesday.

George has been representing the County at under 18 level for a while and was thrilled when he received the letter telling him he was in the squad for the under 21s match.

George's progress up the county level ladder started from the under 14s, when he was selected to attend trials but was unfortunate not to make the final squad.

This didn't deter him though, and whilst playing in his last year at youth level Morwenstow FC, George was spotted and asked to attend the Cornwall under 18 trials at St Austell College.

George made the 18 man squad, where 15 were selected for match days. In the true spirit of a good footballer, he worked hard until he was a regular fixture in the starting 11, becoming a stalwart in defence.

Despite losing their first three games, the Cornwall squad travelled to Bristol to play Gloucestershire where they won 3-1 and never looked back — going on a six-game unbeaten streak from that moment.
