North Devon Table Tennis League 2019/20 weekly round-up

BRIDGERULE A sit eight points off Division One leaders Smugglers with a game in-hand following an 8-2 victory at struggling Holsworthy D last Tuesday night.

The visiting trio of Peter Freeburn, David Streak and Helen Murgatroyd were all in excellent form, each defeating Ian Rice and Nathan Jukes in straight ends.

Home skipper David Sillifant managed to put up a bit of resistance, coming back from 2-1 down to beat both Murgatroyd and then Freeburn.

Across the hall, Holsworthy A returned to winning aways with a 7-3 success over Balls of Fury.

Mark Beaumont dropped just one end on his way to a treble for the hosts before claiming the doubles point with Dave Salisbury.

Salisbury himself managed to beat youngster Tom Venn but was edged out by Steve Porter, who also beat Owen Salisbury and Tim Strand.

Owen Salisbury kept up his return to the form by edging past Strand 12-10 in the fifth end as well as beating Venn.

In Division Two, Holsworthy B thrashed previous leaders Paddlers 9-1 at Sutcombe Village Hall. The visitors were missing their best player in Joe Percival, but the hosts were too strong.

Barry Stearman and Doug Genini both picked up trebles as well as combining to claim the doubles with Jeremy Rickman defeating David Sweeney and league debutant Harry Chaggar.

Paddlers’ defeat allowed Littleham to climb to the top of the table after a 10-0 victory at home to bottom side Holsworthy C.

The visiting trio of Shaun Collins, Sumiyo Berkeley and Ezra Jukes all pushed Alan Pomeroy, but the whitewash was never in doubt.

Tuesday’s results leave Holsworthy B 11 points off the top with a game in-hand.
