CAMELFORD boss Reg Hambly hopes local football fans will come out in force when the Camels welcome North Cornwall rivals Bude Town to Trefrew Park tomorrow night in SWPL Premier West (7.30pm).

The two sides have faced off three times in the last season and a half, with the Camels taking the honours twice and the Seasiders once.

Both sides are in the top ten of the table, although the visitors have struggled at times, particularly defensively and due to a high turnover of players.

Hambly admits he can’t wait for the game, particularly as they haven’t played since thrashing Truro City Reserves 5-1 on Saturday, December 9.

He said: “It’s a game we’re really looking forward to.

“Not having a fixture on the 16th, 23rd or Boxing Day – where I don’t think the fixture secretary has been very kind to us, means it should be pretty exciting, particularly as it’s on a Friday night.

“We’ve had a few close games with Bude in the last couple of seasons, and hopefully this one will be similar.

“The three games have all been very close, and have certainly had their fair share of incidents, and I’m sure both teams will put on a bit of a spectacle for the supporters.

“It’d be great to see as many people as possible come out of their front rooms and watch the game.”

The game back in September was one of the most controversial of the season as the Camels ran out 2-1 winners in a game that saw three Bude red cards, in the back drop of a controversial refereeing performance from Shaun Edge.

And while Town’s disciplinary record has improved, their tendency to score and concede in equal measure, makes it a tough game to call.

Hambly said: “Bude are a very good team. Their team has changed a bit over the season, so it depends a bit on which sort of team they bring, but they’re one of the best in the league going forward.

“But we know we’ll have to be really strong defensively, so hopefully we can exploit them with our pace on the counter.”

Camelford will be without arguably their two best players in captain and midfield playmaker Charlie Hambly, while in-form striker Brooklyn Wilkins, who is at university in Plymouth, won’t be around.

Hambly said: “Charlie is suspended for another two games, and our top-scorer Brooklyn will be away as well, but we should be fairly full strength apart from that.”

However the Camels boss admits their lack of game time could be a factor, but called on people to get behind the fixture.

He said: “We played a lot of games earlier on in the season, but having a 20-day break isn’t really helpful.

“But the boys have been trying to keep fit, and are ready to get playing again.

“If anybody hasn’t experienced a game under the lights at Camelford, it’d be great to see you.

“We have decent catering facilities and a bar, and a game at Trefrew Park at night is usually a good spectacle.”

A crowd of over 200 watched the corresponding fixture on Boxing Day morning, and with it being Friday night and the only fixture on in the area on the night, Camelford officials will hope for something similar.
