WITH record entries of 175 juniors and 330 seniors, competition at the 2014 Bude RNLI Lifeboat Run was at its very best. The evening was a resounding success for everyone involved, and main sponsor Outdoor Adventure and organisers Launceston Road Runners saw two strongly contested races in this RNLI fundraising event. The first competition, starting at 6.30pm, was the one mile junior race with the top three runners finishing in under six minutes. Last year's winner, Kieran Langman, aged 11, retained his junior title by winning in an impressive five minutes and 51 seconds, beating his 2013 time by a full 13 seconds. In second place was 13-year-old Will Blee, with a time of five minutes and 57 seconds. The first girl to cross the line was Holly Martin, aged 13, who finished an amazing third overall in five minutes and 59 seconds. Showing that the Lifeboat Run is for everyone, the youngest runner, at just three-years-old, was Katie Vernon, who completed the circuit in 12 minutes and 24 seconds. The senior race — part of the Cornish Multi-Terrain Race series — is a six mile, single lap course, using two miles of flat cycle-ways for the route out; three miles of flat canal towpath for the route back; and a connecting one mile hilly cross country footpath around the Whalesborough Estate.
