SPLASH Leisure Pool in Bude has received new funding to give away free swimming lessons.
Situated next door to indoor leisure centre Harlequinns and the Morrisons supermarket, Splash has been allocated £4,000 from the StreetGames charity which looks to help disadvantaged communities through its Doorstep Sports initiative, this allows people between the ages of 14-25 in deprived areas to be given the chance to partake in sport.
Having started at the beginning of June, Splash are offering anyone between the ages of 14-25 to sign up for free and have a go in the hope that more people will rekindle or find a love for swimming.
There is one session on a Thursday from 6pm-8pm before the following day sees another chance for people to get involved between 7.30pm and 9pm with all sessions designed to allow customers to enjoy themselves under careful supervision.
The scheme runs until September, and general manager, Paul Kirby, believes that in a seaside town such as Bude, the ability to swim is extremely important.
Mr Kirby said: “It is vital that people know how to swim anyway, but in Bude probably even more so with Bude being next to the sea.
“That’s why it is excellent news that we’ve been able to receive this funding just like last year which allows people to relax and have fun in the pool for a couple of hours on a Thursday or a Friday.
get involved again.”
