Verde Recreo Hockey League
Southern Two
Bude 2
Duchy A 2
THE hosts gave a better account of themselves this week in their first home game of the season but could only come away with a draw against their fellow Cornish visitors.
Duchy started the better against the hosts who still had some key players missing and duly took the lead with a well-taken strike.
But Bude soon pulled level as Thomas Hall opened his account for the season with a solid straight strike from the edge of the D, that fired into the far corner.
A cagey affair ensued with both teams creating chances and Duchy were the ones to edge in front again, only for them to be pegged back by the home side as Hall sent a sublime pass to Paul Floyd, who coolly slotted home past the advancing keeper.
Bude had the better chances to snatch all three points but agonisingly could not find the killer touch and the points were shared.
Bude are away to a tough Devonport Services side next week and will be looking to seek revenge for a pre-season thumping and to build on the performances from the last couple of games.

Bude 1
Plymouth Marjon 2 3
A FAILURE to take their chances cost Bude dear as they were beaten 3-0 by Plymouth Marjon seconds, on a day where the club paid their respects to Shirley Walters.
The hosts started the match well, intercepting the ball and making strong tackles.
During the first-half the play was mainly down the centre of the pitch, but the visitors Plymouth managed to capitalise on a rare foray forward to go ahead.
Despite finding themselves under increasing pressure, the home side nearly levelled as Tammy Snowsill played a lovely long ball through to the strikers where an equaliser was on the cards, but Marjon’s defence stayed strong.
With only a couple minutes left of the first-half, Plymouth worked their way back up the pitch and found themselves in the D.
A shot was well saved by stand-in keeper Jo Timmins but the rebound was seemingly heading into the back of the net, until Claire Westaway did superbly to clear the ball off the line.
The coastal club composed themselves after the break and used plenty of width to get at the oppposition, however they failed to capitalise and the visitors broke away to notch a second.
Charlotte Gist was a threat on the wing for Bude and although the hosts managed to force several short corners, no goal was forthcoming.
Marjon added a third shortly after, but Bude continued to battle away and grabbed a consolation following a long corner.
Robyn Pengilly passed the ball to Snowsill who did likewise to Leanne Stanbury. She then drove the ball to the back line with a final slip to Snowsill on the penalty spot, who finished with aplomb.
Bude never gave up and kept fighting throughout, With many more opportunities on goal but unfortunately with no goal success.
Bude will hope their developing side can gain their first win of the season next Saturday when they head down to Penzance.
