West Clubs Women’s Hockey League
South Division
Duchy 1
Bude 3
BUDE are up to sixth in the South Division of the West Clubs Women’s Hockey League after a 3-1 victory at Duchy on Saturday.
Bude went into their home game with Plym Valley 12 days ago bottom of the table, but their 7-2 success in that fixture followed by last weekend’s success at Duchy means they are up to mid-table, although due to the incredibly close nature of the league, they are one of three sides above the bottom by a solitary point.
Bude made the trip to Pool Academy near Redruth knowing that the matches against sides around them carry extra significance, but found themselves a goal down inside ten minutes.
However the visitors picked themselves back up and levelled the playing field thanks to a great goal from Erin Slade. Bude’s defence held strong with Louise Shepherd, Maddie Old and Maddie Traxton keeping the Duchy attack at bay, which allowed Cara Phillips to score a great goal and put Bude 2-1 up, which was how it stayed until half-time.
Tammy Snowsill provides some excellent balls through the gaps supported by player-of-the-match Nim Panesar, who held the ball brilliantly and kept calm under pressure.
Bude defended their lead well while at the other end, Lucy Storry, Anna Elliot and Charlotte Gist used their speed to drive down the line and open up spaces in the West Cornwall side’s defence, while strikers Ruby Bryant and Rachael Pomeroy applied strong pressure from the front.
This endeavour resulted in a third goal before the end, this time from Storry, as Bude headed back up to the North Cornwall coast with yet another win.
