SWIMMING sensation Adam Roebuck mixed it with the best at the National Para Swimming Championships, smashing all his personal bests in the events he competed in.
Adam, from Bude, travelled to Manchester Aquatics centre earlier this month to compete along side Paralympic and World Champions at the National Para Swimming Championships, which attracted over 300 swimmers including famous para swimmers Ellie Simmonds, Jessica-Jane Applegate and 12 times Paralympic medal winner Sascha Kindred.
Adam swam amazingly and achieved personal bests in all his events.
Speaking after the event, Adam said:”I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to swim along side such amazing para swimmers. It was my first big competition and I am very pleased with my performance.”
Adam was accompanied to Manchester by Bude Sharks Head Coach Maggie Davies, who said: “As a coach the proudest moment for you and swimmers is qualifying for Nationals and that is what our swimmer Adam Roebuck did.
“We arrived at the aquatics centre a little unprepared for the amount of disability talent we were faced with.
“It was awesome to see so many young people all with various catagories of disability joining in the sport and, what’s more, enjoying every minute.
“Adam qualified for seven events and in each gained personal best times, of up to nine seconds — It was amazing.
“He worked so hard and it shows; to go to a national event and still shave seconds off is fantastic. He is a proper ambassador for Bude Sharks and disability swimming.”
Adam is now back in the pool training hard for Cornwall County ASA county championships and an international event in Glasgow at the beginning of next year.
