FIVE of Bude’s finest surfers were on top form at the English National Surfing Championships as they won their respective competitions at Watergate Beach in Newquay over the early May Bank Holiday weekend.

Ellie Turner, Emily Currie, Reubyn Ash, Kit Innes and Stanley Norman braved the testing conditions on the Cornish coast to emerge victorious and showcase the phenomenal surfing talent currently in Bude.

Turner was the star of the show, winning the U16 and U18 Girls competitions before completing the treble by lifting the Women’s title, a phenomenal achievement for one so young.

While Turner arguably was the best performer throughout the championships, Currie also enjoyed a stellar weekend, winning the Longboard title before becoming fourth in the Women’s Final.

On the men’s side Ash, matched Turner’s brilliance by becoming the national men’s champion, finishing ahead of Alan Stokes and Jayce Robinson.

In the boys’ competition, Bude continued to dominate, Norman won the Boys U14 title before just losing out on the U16 title to Innes who himself then came fourth in the U18 event.

A truly brilliant weekend for the local surfing scene, and with many of them so young, expect many more titles to be heading back to Bude.
